Creation, evolution, ???

was on the bus today and got into a discussion somehow with the driver and ok be ood his work colleagues about whether there's life in other planets, evolution and creation.

the driver believes there must be other life out there, i agree with him that life can't be unique to this planet out of the billions that exist.

his colleague who i think might be a jw by his attitude and reasoning skills thinks we're the only planet with life on it and it was made perfect and exact purposely for humans.

Until starting and reading this thread and also reading the Atheists Book of bible Stories I didn't even notice how ridiculous a lot of what is In the bible is. You have to be superstitious and believe in magic to believe a lot of what it says.

Onagers post about the stripey sheep and sticks made me laugh.

I've started doing a lot more research on science now and I'm learning the basics of evolution before I read more advanced research because I've forgotten quite a lot over the years with being a jw.

Why aren't the JDubs receiving more bad publicity concerning the abuse cover-ups?

i know that the jdubs think that they are the center of the universe and in actuality, no one except ex-jdubs gives a rats ass about these religious crazies.

my question is i read that as a percentage of pedophiles per members, that the percentage is larger in the watchtower company than in the catholic church.

i would think that would catch someones attention in the media and make a good story.. what really pisses me off is the watchtower cult is gloating about all of the negative press the catholics are receiving concerning pedophiles not even knowing that the jdubs have thousands of sexual abuse cases that have been covered over.

I didn't believe Any media about jws when I was pimi, now I'm not so naive.

Welcome iamwhatiam - I also left this year and I'm so happy now as well.

You'll discover so many lies the society told us. Life and most people outside the religion are not like what the society told us. Although a lot of jws are nice they are conditional friends because they'll drop anyone who leaves the religion. I know much nicer, more genuine friends now and we all have different beliefs but we are great friends.

will the "slave" explain to their followers that such an invaluable "witnessing tool" is no longer to be used, or will they just revise it electronically to reflect "current truth?

when i first started looking at “apostate” sites , i was always watching over my shoulder, hoping no one would catch me viewing “spiritual pornography”.

i found these types of sites mesmerizing but i never thought i’d join one.... look at me now.😈.

I used to come on the site when my ex wasn't home or was asleep in bed or when I sat skiving in one of the small school rooms during a meeting. I always deleted my browsing history for this site straight away after being on it in case someone suspected me so they'd have no proof if the elders asked to look at my internet history. Looking back on it now it was ridiculous really but the fear of being caught was real.

JW’s do NOT shun... (apprently)

my quora campaign of answering all jw related questions truthfully with evidence is going well.

however, one jw had the audacity to claim that "jws do not shun".

they seem to want to present a fake, squeeky clean image to non-members and seem to get angry when answering questions regarding shunning.. like this asshole, dennis cybulski.

I have a text and an email off 2 different jws who used to be friends.

1 says she can no longer speak to me once my D'A is announced at the meeting and hasn't since.

2nd person says we will no longer have anything in common once I leave and she will no longer be allowed to help me. I have seen her a few times since and she won't hold eye contact or smile back at me when I smile. (Definitely shunning).

KH Hall doors to remain locked during meetings?

my mother in law told us this morning that they read a letter in her cong last night.

from now on kh doors will be locked after 15 min of meeting start.

only the fire exit (one way door) will remain unlocked.

The governing body seem to be upping the paranoia levels of its victims (followers). They'll be scared of their own shadows if the gb keep all this up with the Armageddon bunker videos and locking doors, etc

Can I ask how many of you presently study or have studied both creation AND evolution theories to arrive at what you believe to be true now?

Creationists on here - have you also studied evolution?

With the amount of information available out there to study it's going to take me years to discover what I now believe. It's a journey I'm willing to go on though. From what I've learned so far I'm leaning more towards agnostic/atheist at present 40:60. That ratio will change as I learn more I'm sure!

Wouldn't a jw just rationalise this somehow as the gene was broken when eve and Adam sinned and it's part of our inherited imperfection?

Cofty - i'm really enjoying reading through your series of posts on evolution, they help throw creationism out of the window altogether and you've made them easy to understand so thank you
